Engineering Techniques for Success
Engineering Techniques for Success is a five-hour professional development event designed to help first-year engineering majors be academically successful. Students learn about campus resources such as tutoring, counseling, Disability Services, and the Writing Center, as well as a range of study skills and strategies. There are breakout groups for student athletes, commuters, veterans, etc., with peer mentors. There are study breaks where students, in small groups, work on homework. We have a panel of upper-level students who share advice from their experience. We end the evening with an inspiring speaker who talks about how engineering makes an impact on our world. Students are provided with dinner and snacks throughout the evening.
